It's been over six months since we launched and shipped the abxylute S9 mobile controller. Recently, we conducted a survey with our first batch of users. Thank you to the 191 participants who took the time to share their experiences! Here are the stats and key takeaways we’re excited to share with you all. 

User Profile: Who’s Using the S9, and How Are Gamers Using It?

  • Global reach: Most users are from North America and Europe/UK, with growing numbers worldwide. We’re thrilled to see the S9 connecting gamers across the globe!

  • Top platforms: Gamers use the S9 across a variety of platforms. The majority play local mobile games, followed by cloud gaming (Xbox Game Pass, GeForce Now), with emulators and remote play gaining traction.

  • Popular game genres: The most-played genre is Action/Adventure, followed by RPG and FPS/TPS shooters. We’re glad that the S9’s precision controls are elevating your gaming adventures! 😺

Overall Satisfaction: What Do Gamers Love Most About the S9?

Compared to the launch of the abxylute One handheld, the S9 has achieved higher overall satisfaction ratings:

  • Overall satisfaction: 8.85/10

  • Hardware rating: 8.74/10

  • Software rating: 7.96/10 (at the time of the survey, software updates were still in progress, so we hope this will improve further!)

  • Screen Mapping experience: 8.49/10

Hardware Performance Breakdown

What Users Loved

We asked users to rate different aspects of the S9’s hardware. Here’s what stood out:

  • Comfortable grip and ergonomic design: The most praised aspect, making the S9 perfect for long gaming sessions.

  • Multi-device compatibility and joystick precision: Highly rated, with users appreciating the full-sized Hall-effect joysticks.

  • Low-latency connectivity and responsive buttons: Key highlights for gamers who play competitive or fast-paced games.

Areas for Improvement

While feedback was largely positive, there were a few areas noted for improvement:

  • D-pad and back buttons: These received slightly lower scores compared to other hardware features.

    • For the D-pad, we recommend switching between its three styles to find the best fit for different game types.

    • The back buttons were intentionally designed with heavier resistance to avoid accidental presses, but we’ll explore adjustments based on your feedback

Software: What Users Loved vs. Areas for Improvement

Software scored lower than hardware, but it’s also where we see the greatest opportunity for growth. Here’s what we learned:

  • Touchscreen mapping: Highly rated, with most users finding it intuitive and effective.

Top Feedback for Improvement

  1. Touchscreen mapping for iOS: Many users requested this feature, but unfortunately, iOS does not allow touchscreen mapping for any mobile controller.

  2. Small language tweaks and translation requests: We received feedback on current translations and requests for additional languages. If you have suggestions for your language, feel free to email us at hi@abxylute.com.

  3. Customization options: Features like customizable themes and mapping profiles were popular requests. We’re looking into adding these in future updates.

  4. Better tutorials for touchscreen mapping and gyro settings: Some users found the tutorials unclear and asked for more intuitive guidance, like video walkthroughs. We’ve already compiled some Q&A and short videos and will continue improving this area.

Final Takeaway

With an average recommendation score of 9/10, we’re thrilled that the S9 is highly rated by our users. Many of you praised its comfort, precision, and versatility across gaming platforms. While a few areas—like software usability and tutorial clarity—can be improved, we’re committed to addressing your feedback.
